Discovering the Enchantment: The Beautiful Villages of Normandy

Through winding cobblestone lanes, past timber-framed houses filled with colourful flowers and trailing vines, Normandy is still a voyage of discovery for me as I continue to explore these timeless hamlets.

Nestled amidst rolling hills, verdant valleys, and picturesque coastlines, the villages of Normandy call to me with their timeless charm and captivating beauty. Join me on a journey through this enchanting region of France as we uncover the hidden gems and quaint havens that define the essence of Normandy’s rural peacefulness.

Normandy is dotted with several beautiful villages that are worth exploring or considering for living nearby. These are my favourites:

Beuvron-en-Auge:

Tucked away in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, Beuvron-en-Auge is a quintessential Norman village with half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and flower-filled gardens. It’s a delight to wander through its narrow lanes and soak in the atmosphere of old-world charm. There are also quite a few antique shops in the main area making it entertaining and charming.

Lyon-la-Forêt: Surrounded by lush forests and crossed by a meandering river, Lyon-la-Forêt is one of the most beautiful villages in Normandy. Its well-preserved medieval architecture, including a picturesque market square and timber-framed houses

Veules-les-Roses:

Nestled along the banks of the Veules River, Veules-les-Roses is known for its romantic charm and scenic coastal walks. The village is famous for its watermills, historic church, and colourful gardens, making it a perfect destination for a leisurely day trip or a peaceful retreat.

Barfleur:

Located in the Manche department, Barfleur is a picturesque fishing village with a historic harbour, traditional stone houses, and stunning coastal views. It is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei: Nestled in the Orne department of Normandy, Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei is not only celebrated for its scenic location along the Sarthe River and its well-preserved medieval architecture but also for its rich artistic heritage. The village has long been a haven for artists, attracting painters, sculptors, and writers drawn to its serene atmosphere and breathtaking landscapes.

Just on the outskirts of Normandy – an honourable mention:

Gerberoy: Found in the Oise department, Gerberoy is famous for its charming flower-covered cottages, narrow streets, and well-maintained gardens. Gerberoy is technically not in the Normandy region but rather in the Hauts-de-France region, which borders Normandy to the west. Nonetheless, Gerberoy remains a beautiful and picturesque village worth visiting.

Let us share in the magic of this enchanting corner of France, where beauty knows no bounds and the spirit of adventure knows no limits. I simply cannot wait to return!

A bientôt.
